Wheatpaste
Some sort of glue is considered useful to bookbinding. Wheatpaste is the traditional glue, hence its associations with anarchists and rebels, since insurrection is traditionally the domain of the literate peasantry, and a bookshop is a place for individual thought.

The recipie is very simple. Mix one part wheat flour to four parts water, then boil to half its volume. That's it! Classical bookbinding glue.
