Sprouts!
We make all this fuss about reducing waste and cutting plastics out of one's life so that microplastic dust doesn't embed itself in our brain tissue and other organs, and then we turn right back around and tell you to put it back in your life.

Container gardening, in this instance, is the repurpousing of waste to grow vegetables. Plastic soda cup from a fast-food restaraunt? Poke some holes in the bottom for drainage, fill with dirt, and grow food in it. Empty margarine tub? I think you mean to say "a nice pot to grow some thyme or basil in." Any old mayonaise jars you're not using for sprouting?
Again, it's now a pot. Fill it with soil and grow food in it. Microwave meal trays are usually a bit shallow, but can make excellent trays for microgreens. The plastic tubs that salad greens often come in can grow much more salad than they hold.
Eventually, your accumulated waste will not fill landfills and wreck the planet, but will fill your home with life and feed you. Throw nothing away and put a seed in every single one.
